The Plainview Writers Guild
Thursday,
March 17, 2011
Hello,
fellow authors.
It
is with mixed emotions that I write this letter.
During
the March 12, 2011 meeting of the Plainview Writers Guild, the few members that
were left in the club voted to disband the group.
The
club was formed in August of 1983 by Will-Allen (Billie) Jameson. As the
years went by, we saw new members come and go and some members even went to
their Heavenly home. We are looking forward to seeing them again when we
get called Home, too. We had 35 members when I joined in December of
1995.
After
the sudden death of Billie's son, David, and husband,
Ray, Billie's son, Bob, took her to North Carolina to be closer to him, and
the remaining members did all they could to hold the group together, but after
27 years, there just wasn't the interest in the community that was needed to
sustain the group. Four of the six remaining members don't even
live in Plainview and with the rising cost of auto fuel, it wasn't feasible for them to make the trips to
Plainview for the monthly meetings.
The
six remaining members were:
Mathis
Rogers - held offices of Program Committee, Corresponding
Secretary and Webmaster. Member from
1995-2011.
Mary
Roper-Byrd - held offices of Program chair, Vice President, President,
and Corresponding Secretary. Member from
1996-2011
Joe
Garnett - Held office of Vice President and
President. Member from 2003-2011.
Ethelyn
Garnett - Held office of Treasure and Recording Secretary. Member from
2004-2011.
Betha
Lee Roberts - Member from 2006-2011.
Cheryl
Cornelius - Member from 2007-2011.
I
do hope that everyone continues to write and gets published. I have sent
my first novel, "The Mysterious Bed" to an editor and I have found someone to
create my book covers for me, so I am on the road to success. As authors, we are
now able to self-publish our work through Amazon at http://createspace.com for
Print On Demand books, or http://kdp.amazon.com for eBooks
on the Kindle, without any up front fees. They get
paid when a book sells and so does the author.
Our
website, http://PlainviewWritersGuild.org (and this email address Webmaster@PlainviewWritersGuild.org) will remain up until
2/18/2012, since it's paid up until then and this notice will be available
there.
As
we close this chapter of our lives, we are happy to announce that Carole Bell
(caroleabell@gmail.com)
is starting a critique group under the umbrella of The Northwest Texas
Christian Writers. www.ntchristianwriters.com.
Their first meeting will be Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview. Please contact Carole for more information.
(update 11-8-11) I occasionally send out little "informational pushes" with information to inspire you to write. If you would like to receive them please click here to subscribe.
Good
luck to you all and stay in touch.
